DEC - Display Energy Certificates

Since 1 October 2008, Display Energy Certificates became a legal requirement for buildings with a total useful floor area greater than 1,000 m2 that are occupied by a public authority or institution providing a public service to a large number of people who visit the building.

DEC – Display Energy Certificates The DEC shows the actual energy usage of a building, the Operational Rating, it makes the public aware of the energy efficiency of the building and is based on the energy consumption as recorded by gas, electricity and other meters.

The DEC must be permanently displayed (A3) and clearly visible to the public at all times.

An Advisory Report that lists cost-effective measures to improve the energy rating of the building always accompanies a DEC.

Display Energy Certificates are valid for 1 year and have to be renewed every 12 months. The accompanying Advisory Report is valid for 7 years.

An accredited energy assessor must produce both the certificate and the advisory report.
